Impact Wrestling merges with Global Force Wrestling

Tonight (Apr. 20) on the live episode of Impact (results here) Karen Jarrett announced that Impact Wrestling and the Jarrett owned promotion Global Force Wrestling have merged.

Details will likely surface in the coming weeks, but this move makes sense. Jeff Jarrett has owned Global Force Wrestling since 2014 but struggled to get a television deal. Since then, Dixie Carter gave up ownership of Impact and the new owners brought Jeff Jarrett in to run creative alongside Bruce Prichard and Dutch Mantell.

It was only a matter of time that they use GFW’s roster and Impact’s television deal to make one company. It was only minutes after the announcement that GFW wrestler Sonjay Dutt came out and was added to the X Division title scene.

We’ll still need to learn what happens to the titles from the GFW promotion. Magnus is GFW world champ. Cody Rhodes is NexGen champ. Will those titles be dropped? Will they be merged with TNA titles? Those things remain to be seen.

It’s a move that makes sense. Now we see how it affects the on air product.
