Alberto Del Rio Is Interested In A WWE Return
Alberto Del Rio (aka Alberto El Patron), a former WWE Champion, says he's open to a return to the company and possibly a future Hall of Fame entry.
Alberto recently spoke with Sportskeeda's Riju Dasgupta and revealed that if he were to re-sign, the first thing he would do is repent to WWE for his previous mistakes. Alberto has had his share of problems both with WWE and outside the company, and has shown regret in the past. He stated that he was unaware of the difficulties of being a wrestling promoter, but that he can now relate to them and that it was all simply business at the end of the day.
“Of course, first of all, I would say thank you. Thank you for the opportunity, and sorry for the mistakes I made,” Alberto said of a potential WWE return. “I just didn’t know. Sometimes I would just, I did it because it was personal. Now, as a promoter, I know there is nothing personal in pro wrestling. It’s just business. I’m sorry for my mistakes.”
Alberto revealed that when he last worked for WWE in 2016, he was going through a bad moment in his life. He mentioned that he was going through a divorce and was suffering from depression.
“No excuse, but I was also going through a difficult time in my life when I got divorced,” he said. “I lost a fantastic woman, the mother of my children, for my mistakes, and that put me in a deep depression. But that’s just for me to handle. It’s not an excuse. It takes a toll on you and your body, and your mind and your spirit. So, I will say thank you and sorry, and I would do it again.”
Alberto, 44, stated that he has no plans to return to Mexico and that he believes he must demonstrate to WWE that he has improved. He also stated that he wants his actions to speak for themselves.
Alberto joined WWE in 2009 and was fired in August 2014 after an altercation with a WWE employee. In October 2015, he returned to the organisation for a second stint, which lasted until September 2016. Del Rio has won two WWE Championships, two WWE World Heavyweight Championships, two WWE United States Championships, one Royal Rumble victory, and one Money In the Bank victory.
It's unclear whether WWE is willing to give Alberto another shot, but we'll keep you updated.
